I've been teaching since 1984 and made the transition to the online environment in 1999. As an online course facilitator, I recommend this book to my entire faculty group at the University of Phoenix . Working for the largest technologically, innovative privately held University has emphasized the need for quality faculty facilitators. This book will assist those traditional faculty members with their transition to the new requirements compared to the brick and mortar model of the past. In addition, I think the authors did a good job of capturing what is important for this new teaching model, highlighting the benefits to all the stakeholders and more importantly it will tell you what works and how to manage the tasks associated with being an online instructor. If your goal is to become an online instructor then my suggestion would be to purchase the book, read it and put the techniques to work.
